At our April 18th training session, Ed Strickland will present part one of a two-session course on paleography. The one-hour paleography lecture will be followed by a practice workshop at our May 16th training session.

After only a little research, we all have to begin to read original documents. Often our eyes glaze over after the first few lines, or we skip through the document looking for names and overlooking many important details. This short course in paleography explores the development of the Roman alphabet and the cursive hand (including the pesky thorn). Ed will cover five steps to understanding old documents, transcriptions, special characters, and translations.
